Level up your hydraulics knowledge with this Basic Hydraulics-Heavy Machinery microcredential for the vitally important heavy equipment sector! This is the second of two microcredentials, along with Basic Electrical-Heavy Machinery microcredential, that were developed in partnership with the New York State Department of Transportation. Being mechanically inclined and having a general knowledge of hand tools is a good foundation for pursuing this series. With this hydraulics microcredential, you will be able to identify different hydraulic components and basic circuits, as well as interpret schematics. You will understand how to effectively troubleshoot electrical problems in maintaining and repairing heavy equipment. Successful completion of this microcredential adds specialized skills for those familiar with vehicle fleet maintenance and prepares those new to the field to immediately apply for entry-level technician positions. Note that there is an increasing demand to train current mechanics at heavy equipment dealerships, farms, and independent shops. According to AED (Associated Equipment Distributors), “the equipment industry has a job opening rate three times higher than the national average,” and “among AED member respondents, 95% agree there is a skill gap in the industry.” See the related microcredential in Basic Electrical (for heavy equipment) linked below.
Credits earned in the completion of this microcredential can be applied toward completion of a related certificate or degree program. It is a building block that gives you a jump start to education and career success.
