Learn the principles of learning and behavior with this Basics of Behavioral Supports microcredential. You will understand how to effectively teach new skills to reduce challenging forms of behavior (such as aggression, self-injury or not following instruction) with individuals with differing abilities (e.g., diagnoses of intellectual disability, autism, behavior disorders). You will gain essential skills needed to define, measure, and analyze learning and behavioral data by learning individualized assessment procedures. You will be able to implement evidence-based strategies targeting skill acquisition and behavior reduction and you will become skilled in engaging effective communication and professional behaviors while maintaining the dignity of your clients. Successful completion of this microcredential prepares you for continued study and qualifies as the 40 hour education requirement for taking the initial exam for the Registered Behavioral Technician (RBT) national certification. For those not immediately pursuing certification, this microcredential can be of value for anyone who works with populations that may require unique teaching strategies and/or who engage in challenging forms of behavior.
Credits earned in the completion of this microcredential can be applied toward completion of a related certificate or degree program. It is a building block that gives you a jump start to education and career success.
