The New York State cannabis industry continues to grow and this comprehensive Cannabis Studies microcredential addresses essential facets of an emerging market. You will study regulatory requirements related to the manufacturing, distribution and transportation of cannabis, addressing safety, packaging, and distribution in legal markets. You will understand the legal and compliance frameworks related to cannabis in New York and nationally. You will know the distinctions between medicinal cannabis and recreational cannabis policies and how New York's policies relate to the policies of other states and federal law. You will study the chemistry of cannabis, understanding plant biology, growth cycles, and cultivation techniques including effort needed to maximize yield and quality. You then have the opportunity to customize your microcredential by choosing one of two additional courses, diving deeper into the physical and psychological health effects of cannabis, or further study on the history of cannabis use and its relationship to politics and criminal justice. This microcredential is designed to meet the needs of multiple audiences, from those working in community or criminal justice roles who need to understand and support changed regulation, to those interested in entering or advancing in nearly any facet of the cannabis industry. Successful completion of this microcredential also prepares those seeking to apply for New York State cultivation, processor, or retail licenses.
