What you'll learn

Become a leader on the slopes! This microcourse leverages your skill and passion for skiing in support of others. Through classes held on Gore Mountain, one of the premiere ski resorts in the northeast, you will fine-tune your own craft while mastering the leadership, coaching, safety, and emergency skills required of top ski instructors. Successful completion of this microcredential provides you with the opportunity to earn the nationally recognized Professional Ski Instructors of America (PSIA) Alpine Level 1 certification. You will be ready for continued study, internships and to immediately apply for positions as a Level I ski instructor. You also have the opportunity to customize additional certifications earned by selected one of two options for the required third course in this microcredential. Taking HED 104 American Red Cross First Aid and Safety yields certifications in RTE (Responding to Emergencies), pediatric and adult cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and automated external defibrillator (AED). Opting to take HED 108 Wilderness First Responder results in certifications in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and automated external defibrillator (AED) as well as the Wilderness First Responder (WFR) certification. The WFR sets standards of practice for outdoor professionals providing pre-hospital backcountry first response and emergency medical care in remote environments, adding with EPI Pen and Narcan certifications. Note that selected HED 108 adds one additional academic credit for a total of 5 credits toward a degree, bringing the estimated tuition to $1,155. The time is now to think about your new leadership role on the slopes! For those who already have emergency response certifications and/or who want to achieve the PSIA Alpine Level 1 certification alone, learners have the opportunity to register for the Snowboarding Instruction Level 1 Certification only. This option provides a reduced number of credits, 2, and reduces your cost to $462.
