Prepare to support teachers and students through this Literacy Coaching microcredential! Through several graduate-level courses and a specialized practicum, this microcredential prepares essential literacy professionals in education, ready to serve as literacy coaches at the elementary or secondary levels. You will learn foundational knowledge of literacy instruction and development from 1st to 12th grade, be able to evaluate, design and implement literacy curriculum, and learn how to integrate diversity and equity into literacy programs. You will be able to support classroom teachers through professional learning, leadership, and coaching to meet the literacy needs of students in inclusive, research-informed learning environments. This microcredential is intended for existing teachers looking to move into literacy coaching positions and/or for those teachers seeking to improve their skills. Note: Those planning to take this microcredential should have three or more years of PK–12 classroom teaching experience (or equivalent) in public, charter, private, religious or independent schools; New York State certification in one or more areas of teaching (e.g., early childhood, childhood, adolescence, teaching English language learners, special education).
Credits earned in the completion of this microcredential can be applied toward completion of a related certificate or degree program. It is a building block that gives you a jump start to education and career success.
