The CASAC-T (Preparation) Educational Core I microcredential is the first in a three-microcredential series that puts you on a pathway to supporting those in recovery. Successful completion of all three prepares qualified students for the CASAC-T (Credential for Alcohol and Substance Abuse Counseling-Trainee), the recognized credential for those who wish to work in New York State as a substance abuse counselor. This first microcredential provides foundational knowledge of the addictions field. You will gain an understanding of group dynamics and develop skills as a facilitator in various settings. You will explore family dynamics and relationships. You will also be introduced to the chemical and physical processes related to abuse and addiction. Successful completion positions you for success in the Core II microcredential.
Credits earned in the completion of this microcredential can be applied toward completion of a related certificate or degree program. It is a building block that gives you a jump start to education and career success.
