First, you will learn forensic drug testing techniques and complete training in presumptive drug identification, i.e., safely using colorimetric chemical tests to quickly identify illegal substances in the field. Then, you will explore the tools and methods involved with drug investigations and forensic analysis. Successful completion of this microcredential readies all to continue their studies toward a bachelor's degree in Criminal Investigation; Crime Analysis; or Criminal Justice: Law Enforcement Leadership, while also providing existing professionals such as police officers and detectives, corrections officers, crime scene investigators and forensic science specialists with the specialized skills necessary to earn the nationally recognized NIK presumptive drug identification certification.
