Earning this microcredential demonstrates an increased ability to manage conflict more strategically by developing communicative skills associated with facilitation, mediation, and negotiation in the context of local government. Learners will complete an asynchronous, two-course sequence. The fall course explores the structure, function, and policy processes of state and local governments within the American federal system. The spring course provides the opportunity to learn communicative strategies that aid in conflict management and apply them in both interpersonal and public meeting contexts. Courses count towards the Certified Town Official (CTO) program of the New York Association of Towns. Check with the campus about possible scholarship funding through the New York Municipal Empowerment Foundation.
