SUNY Cortland's microcredential in Teaching Students with Disabilities All Grades is designed for those who already have teacher certification and want to expand their qualifications and/or become certified to teach special education. For those certified teachers interested in obtaining this certification, additional requirements include successfully passing the NYS Content Specialty Test: Students with Disabilities. NYSED also requires certain prerequisites for the SWD certificate, many of which may have been covered through previous coursework. This includes two courses each in math, science, social studies and English; an introduction to special education course; and two courses in literacy methods. Students can earn the microcredential without earning the certification. Note: Qualified students may be eligible for a scholarship to cover course tuition and fees, workshops and a voucher for the content specialty exam.
