What you'll learn

This microcredential addresses the role of the Front Line Supervisor (FLS), responsible for supervision of NYS direct support professionals (DSPs). Effective supervision requires a certain level of skill and knowledge to be both appropriate and successful. You will study the models, theories and principles related to leadership and practical techniques for successful supervision. You will also explore the values and ethics, making an essential commitment to adhere to that code in your work. This microcredential is appropriate for newer (a minimum of six months) and experienced supervisors wanting to enhance their skills. This microcredential aligns with the accredited education requirements for the National Alliance for Direct Support Professional (NADSP) Front Line Supervisor certification. Thanks to a partnership with the New York State Office for People With Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD), a grant is currently available to fund the cost of tuition, fees, and books. In addition, students will receive a stipend of $1,000 upon successful completion of the microcredential and NADSP FLS certification. This microcredential readies all to continue their education in the Human Services associate degree program and provides specialized skills needed to keep pace or advance.
