The New York State wine industry generates close to $16.81 billion in total economic activity, directly employing as many as 45,000 people with additional jobs in supplier and ancillary industries (according to Wine America's 2025 Economic Impact Study). This Wine Studies Proficiency microcredential is grounded in the history of viticulture, providing you with applied experience in wine making, including the growing of grapes, fermentation, soil and climate study. You will understand the business infrastructure that supports the wine industry. You will gain a comprehensive understanding of the wine production process, from vineyard to bottle. Successful completion of this microcredential prepares all to continue their education, providing a pathway to Cayuga's unique Business Administration associate degree with a Wine Studies concentration or broader Event and Tourism management degree. This microcredential provides those currently employed in the wine industry with formal education and specialized skills designed to facilitate advancement in the operation/business side of the industry. This microcredential can also prepare those interested in launching careers in the wine industry with essential skills needed to apply for entry- to mid-level positions such as vineyard technician or assistant, cellar technician, wine room associate or wine educator, as well as work in wine sales, engaging in the region's growing hospitality and tourism market.
