Supporting Students with Disabilities in Classroom Settings
What you'll learn
There is a national and state shortage of certified special educators in NYS, as well as the US. This Supporting Students with Disabilities in Classroom Settings microcredential is designed to provide existing teachers certified in childhood, adolescent, or TESOL education with additional coursework in special education pedagogy. You will gain essential skills in curriculum development, educational planning, assessment and testing, pedagogy and instructional strategies. All students take the same first three courses but then have the opportunity to customize the microcredential through the fourth course, selecting either Methods & Materials for Students with Special Needs, Grades PK-6 OR Special Education Methods, Grades 7-12. Successful completion of this microcredential prepares all to continue their education, provides existing teachers with specialized skills, and may support application to NYSED to add New York State (NYS) Students with Disabilities (SWD)-All Grades teacher certification.
