Basic machining is the processes and techniques used to shape and finish raw materials into finished parts or components-precision is key to ensure fit and operation. Through lecture and hands-on experience you will gain essential machining skills and foundational knowledge in metrology-precision measurement, and materials science. You will operate a vertical mill, horizontal lathe, and other basic power equipment in a machine shop. You will be able to apply proper measurement skills with appropriate tools such as dial indicators, calipers, micrometers, and height gauges. These are all foundational skills used in manufacturing for multiple industries. Successful completion of this microcredential prepares you for a broad range of entry-level positions including tool room attendant, stock handler, operators, entry-level machinist, and lathe operator.
