This Peer Support for Older Adults microcredential is the second in a two-microcredential series focusing on the peer model, one that can be informed by your own lived experience with mental health and/or recovery. This second microcredential focuses on maintaining health and wellness as we age. You will study foundations in aging, how to recognize ageism, aging experiences, and motivational approaches for personal growth. You will consider various social issues relevant to urban and rural environments. You will complete the elective older adult modules on the NYS Academy of Peer Services website, part of the requirements for New York State Peer Specialist Certification. Successful completion of this microcredential readies you to continue your education and preparation for certification, and provides specialized skills that add value for those currently employed across human services agencies or organizations. This microcredential can also serve as the starting point to a career in human or health services. Grant funding through the Mother Cabrini Health Foundation may be available for qualified students. See link below to the first microcredential in the series, Peer Support for Health and Wellness.
