This Teaching Black History microcredential supports content knowledge, curriculum development, and instructional approaches for PK-12 Black history instruction. Students will complete two traditional courses, structured professional development, and a capstone course with attendance/presentation at the annual Teaching Black History conference during the summer of your enrollment (registration fee included in micro-credential) required. All courses are guided by the framework developed by Dr. LaGarrett J. King in Black Historical Consciousness (2020). Successful completion of this microcredential prepares you to design and deliver rigorous, culturally responsive Black history curricula, apply the Black Historical Consciousness framework, and promote critical, reflective engagement with history in PK-12 educational settings.
