This Peer Support for Health & Wellness microcredential is the first in a two-microcredential series focusing on the peer model, one that can be informed by your own lived experience with mental health and/or recovery. This first microcredential focuses on overall health and wellness, building your knowledge and skills in health communication, health literacy, resource identification, peer psychology, and the dynamics of strong peer relationships and groups. Peer staff work alongside clinical staff, providing mentoring, reinforcing coping skills, connecting others to resources, coordinating support groups, and fostering hope. The goal is to create a community of empowerment that is beneficial to you and those you support. Successful completion of this microcredential includes completion of the elective health and wellness modules of the NYS Academy of Peer Services website, part of work needed for the New York State Peer Specialist Certification. This microcredential readies you to continue your education and to continue to work toward certification. This microcredential provides specialized skills that add value for those currently employed across human services agencies or organizations and can also serve as the starting point to a career in human or health services. Grant funding through the Mother Cabrini Health Foundation may be available for qualified students. See link below to the second microcredential in the series, Peer Support for Older Adults.
