Our world balances on the work of civil engineers-from highway and bridge design to utility builds and commercial, industrial and land development projects. A central component of this dynamic Civil Engineering Technician Level 1 microcredential is ensuring your ability to read all types of site plans, Architectural drawings, blue prints and foundation prints that guide framing, plumbing and HVAC. You will be introduced to AutoCAD software and learn the properties of basic construction materials including concrete, steel, wood, aggregates, and masonry. You will explore related environmental regulations, alternative construction methods, and sustainability in the construction industry. This microcredential was developed in partnership with the City of Ithaca Public Works, City of Cortland, FYT Fuels, and Tompkins Workforce New York. Successful completion of this microcredential prepares you for continued study, internships and to immediately apply for entry-level positions in civil engineering, construction and public works including: civil engineering technician I, civil engineering or construction administrative project assistant, blue print reader, construction materials technician.
