What you'll learn

Score big in your sports coaching career with this New York State Coaching Certification Preparation microcredential! Anyone interested in becoming a coach at the varsity, junior varsity, freshman or middle school levels, who is not already a certified NYS physical education teacher, must complete a sequence of coaching courses as determined by the New York State Education Department (NYSED). This microcredential provides you with that required instruction and more. You will learn about emergency response, health sciences, and coaching principles, while you earn crucial certifications like CPR/AED, DASA training, SAVE, and Child Abuse Mandated Reporter. You will refine your skills, craft sport-specific practice sessions, devise season plans, and create scouting reports in a state-of-the-art sports complex. Upon successful completion of this microcredential, you will be prepared for continued study, to apply for your Temporary Coaching License, and to immediately begin applying for coaching positions. Note that fingerprint clearance is required for employment. Note too that those who can provide proof of appropriate and current First Aid/CPR certification accepted by the state for coaching can receive credit for the HED205 course, reducing your cost and possibly your time to completion. Start your future in sports coaching with GCC's winning edge!
