What you'll learn

Welcome to mechanical craftsmanship, where precision meets proficiency! This is the first in a two-part microcredential series designed to prepare leading mechanical assemblers ready to take on today's goals in precision machining. Mechanical Assembler I begins with basic precision machining, grounding you in the essentials of shop hazards and safety and building your expertise in reading and interpreting the detailed drawings and engineering graphics that drive and map this work. You will gain hands on experience in setting up and operating basic tools, be able to explain and construct frontal, horizontal, and profile planes, mastering the art of visualizing and conceptualizing mechanical components in three-dimensional space. Finally, you will be able to harness the power of precision and close tolerance, achieving a close tolerance +/- .0005 inches-the closer the tolerance, the greater the likelihood of proper fit and functionality. Armed with a strong toolkit of knowledge and experience, successful completion of this microcredential prepares you for continued study, apprenticeship, and to immediately apply for entry or junior level assembler or operator positions. Continue your education with the Mechanical Assembler II microcredential to expand your career possibilities.
