What you'll learn

If you are interested in a career dedicated to helping others, the SUNY Orange Direct Support Professional (DSP) microcredentials (DSP-1 and DSP-2) might offer just what you need. Both DSP-1 and DSP-2 are designed to help Direct Support Professionals serving individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities enhance their careers and skills. These microcredentials provide the necessary competencies and academic foundation to obtain national certifications from the National Alliance for Direct Support Professionals. The first two courses below comprise DSP I, which are pre-requisites for the second two courses that comprise DSP II. Qualified individuals may be eligible for limited time grant funding from the New York State Office for People With Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD) that covers all tuition, fees, books, course materials, NADSP credentialing, and educational support. Eligible students who successfully complete each microcredential and certification can earn $750 stipends. Successful completion readies all for continued study, prepares existing DSPs for advancement, and those new to the profession to immediately apply for DSP positions.
