What you'll learn

Get started on a path to supporting individuals in recovery and/or with mental health disorders with this Behavior Health microcredential. You will start with an introduction to the human services field, learning about key direct support and intervention career opportunities. You will study alcohol and chemical dependency, studying the latest research. You will gain an understanding of current treatments, including for adolescents. You will learn about mental health disorders, how they are typically classified and treated. You will gain essential skills in crisis prevention, assessment, intervention and resolution. Successful completion of this microcredential provides you with the skills and knowledge you need to apply for entry-level behavioral health paraprofessional work in the care of those with mental health and substance use disorders, working under a certified professional, at treatment facilities, hospitals, medical practices, and non-profit organizations. This microcredential will also give you 45 hours of counselor education and training, a starting point toward earning your CASAC-T certification from the NYS Office of Addiction Services and Supports (OASAS).
