What you'll learn

Coach in middle or high school with this Public School Professional Coaching microcredential! Anyone interested in becoming a coach at the varsity, junior varsity, freshman or middle school levels, who is not already a certified NYS physical education teacher, must complete a sequence of coaching courses as determined by the New York State Education Department (NYSED). This microcredential provides you with that required instruction and more. Monroe Community College is an approved provider of the New York State Education Department Professional Coach Certification coursework and corresponding workshops (DASA, SAVE, Mandated Reporter: Identification of Child Abuse, and Concussion Management). Note that to coach a complex or contact sport you must also complete a sport-specific course through the National Federation of State High School Associations. Successful completion of this microcredential, combined with the required workshops, can be submitted to NYSED for your Temporary Coaching License, readying you to begin applying for coaching positions and also preparing you for continued study.
