You will understand a range of diagnostic tests, proper labeling, and transport of specimens. You will recognize the sites and medical conditions where venipuncture is contraindicated and demonstrate the skill to perform capillary and venipuncture draws. This microcredential prepares you for the National Healthcareer Association Certified Phlebotomy Technician exam. In addition, you will also study Electrocardiography (ECG) and gain essential skills in electrode placement, lead systems, use of instrumentation, medical terminology and disease pathology. This broad microcredential prepares you for continued study-including the college's one year Medial Assistant certificate program, internships and to immediately apply for phlebotomy technician jobs across laboratory, healthcare and hospital settings. You are also ready for assistant level ECG positions and certain medical assistant or patient care positions. Your breadth of knowledge and essential skills will help you stand out in a competitive job market and position you well for internal advancement.
