October is National Retirement Security Month (NRSM)
National Retirement Security Month (NRSM) is a Congressionally-recognized national campaign to promote the benefits of saving for retirement, and encourage everyone to do so through any or all of their available options - especially employer-sponsored retirement plans and retirement savings plans, both plan types of which are available at SUNY campuses.
NRSM is a perfect time to recognize the importance of making a plan now, to enjoy a more secure retirement later - and different ways to accomplish this goal. Below are some resources with this in mind:
- Corebridge Financial (formerly known as AIG Retirement Services) offers a NRSM web page with resources including a Retirement Security Challenge, live and on-demand educational webinars, digital tools, articles, calculators, and more.
- Fidelity offers a flyer with information about two live educational webinars scheduled for October 18th and 20th.
- TIAA offers retirement-saving-focused resources about savings strategies, the power of small contributions, a planning workbook, and how managed accounts can help; TIAA also offers retirement income-focused resources regarding distribution/income options and how to make it last.
- Voya offers a flyer with simple steps to save, as well as an article about tax-advantaged workplace benefits and NRSM-themed live sessions during October.
- The New York State Deferred Compensation Plan (NYSDCP) web site offers various financial education resources, including calculators, an interactive retirement planner, and webinars for all life stages.
- The National Association of Government Defined Contribution Administrators, Inc. (NAGDCA) promotes the thematic approach to "Your Whole Story", offering video snapshots of savings journey maps for those under 35, ages 35-50, and over 50.
- MissionSquare provides resources including a retirement-focused newsletter and a video about investing in a volatile market.
- The SUNY Benefits Financial Education & Planning web page offers a variety of resources, tools, and calculators to assist with both short- and long-term financial goals.
- The SUNY Benefits Choosing Your Investments web page offers introductory information to help familiarize employees with investments so they can make more educated decisions on where and how to invest money.
