The New York Health Insurance Program (NYSHIP) provides health insurance and prescription drug coverage to eligible employees and their dependents. NYSHIP is administered by the New York State Department of Civil Service and has several health plan options to choose from.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE?
Academic employees must teach six or more credits (or equivalent). Will receive 13 pay periods of coverage for each eligible semester. Effective 1/1/24, part-time academics, whose professional obligation is primarily teaching classes, may establish eligibility for health insurance for each individual semester by counting credits (or equivalent) worked at multiple state-operated campuses.
Professional Employees hired after 1/1/19 must work at least half-time and be appointed for at least three months.
WHEN IS IT EFFECTIVE?
There is a 28-calendar day waiting period. Enroll within 30 days when first newly eligible and coverage is effective on your 29th day of employment.
