Bags

Our bags are eligible to be distributed to any innocent victim of crime or violence. We have delivered bags to rape crisis programs, domestic violence shelter, police stations, schools, homeless shelters, churches, and many other locations. If you’re not sure if your organization is eligible, you can email us at gotyourback@suny.edu.

The comfort bags contain toiletries, self-care items, and resources. Each bag has: small towel, soap, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, lotion, toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, comb, cosmetic kit, tissues, notebook, pen, crayons, stress ball, resource pamphlets, and a message of support hand-signed by one of our volunteers.

You can request bags by completing the form at bit.ly/gyb-request

There is no cost. The bags will be sent to you for free so you can distribute them to survivors.

Once you submit your request form you will receive a confirmation email. You will then be contacted when a delivery date has been confirmed for your bags. Please allow at least 8-10 weeks for your bags to be shipped out. Larger orders may take longer as we deliver larger orders in-person.

Events

A SUNY’s Got Your Back event is when all of our comfort bags are assembled with the help of volunteers then all the bags are delivered to organizations that serve survivors of crime and violence. It is very rewarding to know that you are helping someone in their time of need by putting together these much-needed comfort kits!

Most of our events are at a SUNY campus. The events can be hosted anywhere on campus, as long as there is enough space!

We ask the campus to reserve a large enough space for all the materials required to complete the number of bags pledged and that the location has access to electricity. In addition, we also ask for 10-20 “super volunteers” to help our team during the event. You can also provide music and food if you want. That’s all we need from you! We provide the rest including: posters, fliers, and all the comfort bag materials!

Yes! Our bags are provided to any provider that serves survivors of crime and violence.
