The SUNY Office of General Counsel, SUNY Student Conduct Institute, and SUNY’s Got Your Back are committed to their programs being accessible to attendees and trainees. Each live event and training registration form will include the ability to request accommodations for a disability (such as an ASL interpreter) and attendees may also e-mail Elizabeth Brady to request an accommodation. Kindly provide us with as much notice as possible so we can arrange for the accommodation in an efficient way that better provides access.
SUNY works with event hosts to ensure that training and event locations are accessible under the Americans with Disabilities Act and that information is provided upon request to ensure efficient access to the location for individuals with disabilities.
Each synchronous digital training will include the ability to request accommodations for a disability (such as an ASL interpreter) and attendees may also e-mail Elizabeth Brady to request an accommodation.
In general, SUNY events are "open seating" but staff will, upon request, prioritize seating for individuals with disabilities to best accommodate full access to the event.
Each asynchronous training will be hosted using systems and programs that endeavor to allow accessible access without prior request. This includes verbal content being provided in transcript or closed captioned format alongside visual text, use of programs and systems that meet current accessibility standards (e.g. WCAG 2.0), and following best practices on accessibility. The SUNY website and its included pages have been reviewed for accessibility and are governed by the SUNY Electronic and Information Technology accessibility policy.
SUNY has obtained VPAT or Accessibility documentation from common software systems used to provide content:
To be clear, as required by law, there will never be an additional or different charge to any attendee for any accommodation to meet a need under disability, religious, or health accommodation and we encourage potential attendees to make such requests as early as possible so we can most efficiently and effectively make the event fully accessible.
Questions or complaints about accessibility may be sent to Elizabeth Brady. Please put ADA in the Subject Line.
Where an event is catered, SUNY will, upon request, provide special meals for religious or dietary restrictions (as a practice, vegetarian, vegan, and gluten free options are provided standard). Please indicate that need when registering and attendees may also e-mail Elizabeth Brady to request a specialized meal.
It is the policy of The State University of New York, its Office of General Counsel, the Student Conduct Institute, SUNY’s Got Your Back, and the SPECTRUM conference that restrooms at any sponsored event may be used by any person regardless of their gender identity or expression. Where available, information will be provided, upon request, as to the location of individual, lockable restrooms.
SUNY may cancel or delay an event due to a danger to the participation of some or all attendees for a variety of reasons. SUNY will take the health and safety of attendees as primary consideration in hosting any event or training and will follow relevant guidance of federal and state governmental agencies including agencies governing health, public safety, fire and emergency management. Information about cancellations or delays will be provided to attendees or registrants at the earliest possible point, generally via e-mail.
