AAA Fellowship Steering Committee

The Accessibility Advocates & Allies Faculty Fellowship Program Steering Committee is comprised of members including leaders from SUNY campuses and SUNY System Administration. The Steering Committee’s role is to provide guidance and advice regarding the development and growth of the fellowship program. Members include:

Assistant Professor of Spanish and Distance Learning Instruction and Design at SUNY Oswego

Dr. Christopher D. Hromalik is an Assistant Professor of Spanish and Distance Learning Instruction and Design in the Modern Languages and Literatures Department at SUNY Oswego. He is also the Associate Director of Universal Design for Learning at SUNY, which is funded by the Enhancing Supports and Services for Students with Disabilities for Postsecondary Success program from the Office of University Life at SUNY System Administration. Dr. Hromalik has led accessibility and UDL presentations and workshops since 2011. In addition to his work for SUNY, he was also the Faculty Coordinator and lead instructional designer of the Universal Design for Learning Academy, a multi-day UDL training, from 2016 to 2019. Dr. Hromalik's research involves investigating the role of self-regulated learning in second language acquisition. He also studies the impact of Universal Design for Learning instruction on faculty practice and student learning outcomes.

Deputy Dean of Graduate Studies and a Professor of Interaction Design at SUNY Oswego

Rebecca Mushtare (she/her) is the Deputy Dean of Graduate Studies and a Professor of Interaction Design at the State University of New York (SUNY) at Oswego. At SUNY Oswego she co-founded the Workgroup on Accessibility Practices, designed and facilitated the first cohort of the SUNY Oswego Faculty Accessibility Fellows Program, and has collaborated on many other accessibility initiatives. Rebecca has also served on the SUNY Empowering Students with Disabilities Task Force, the SUNY EIT Accessibility Advisory Committee, and facilitated the first cohort of the SUNY Accessibility Advocates and Allies Faculty Fellows program. Rebecca is also co-founder and co-host of the Tea for Teaching podcast. She earned her MFA in Computer Art from Syracuse University and a BFA in Graphic Design from SUNY Oswego.

Lauren P. Rodriguez headshot

Director of Resources for Students with Disabilities at SUNY System Administration

Dr. Lauren P. Rodriguez is the Director of Resources for Students with Disabilities in the Office of University Life at SUNY System Administration, providing overall leadership to support students with disabilities across the SUNY System and guiding the 64 campuses in adopting best practices in the mitigation of barriers to access for disabled students in all institutional programs, services, and activities. She also assists in developing programs and policies to support equity for students with disabilities. Dr. Rodriguez is also the Director of the SUNY Universal Design for Learning Project. Lauren completed her Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University at Buffalo and earned a Psy.D. in School Psychology from Alfred University. She is a school psychologist and licensed psychologist in New York, as well as a Certified Professional in Accessibility Core Competencies (CPACC) through IAAP.

Senior Associate Provost for Digital Innovation and Academic Services at SUNY System Administration

Kim A. Scalzo is Senior Associate Provost for Digital Innovation and Academic Services at SUNY System Administration with responsibility for academic technology, innovations in teaching and learning with technology, and academic shared services across the Provost's Office. Kim Co-led the transformative system-wide implementation of SUNY's Digital Learning Environment, is currently serving as an Implementation Director for a set of academic innovation initiatives under SUNY's Digital Transformation Project, and coordinates the SUNY Provost's Office support for faculty around AI in teaching and learning. Kim previously served as Director of the SUNY Center for Professional Development and as Executive Director of SUNY Online. Prior to joining SUNY, she held multiple roles at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute leading continuing education, academic technology, and distance learning activities. She received her Master's Degree in Education in College Student Personnel from The College of Saint Rose and her Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science from SUNY Plattsburgh.

Dr. Jessica L. Sniatecki (she/her) is the Assistant Dean for the College of Education and Health at SUNY Brockport and teaches courses in the Addictions and Behavioral Health program. She has a PhD in Counselor Education from the University at Buffalo and has held national certification as a Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC) since 2004. Her research focuses primarily on the college experience of students with disabilities and faculty knowledge and attitudes related to students with disabilities. Jess has published articles and delivered numerous workshops and presentations on topics related to disability experience, ableism, accessibility, and universal design. She is a founding member of SUNY Brockport's Committee on Accessibility and has also served on the Student Accessibility Services (SAS) Advisory Board and the SUNY Empowering Students with Disabilities Task Force. Her contributions have been formally recognized with the Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2017 and the Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Faculty Service in 2024.
