Statement from Chancellor King and the SUNY Board of Trustees on Pride Month

June 29, 2026

"Across New York State and the country, Pride Month serves as an important celebration of love and equality and as an opportunity to amplify the voices of the LGBTQ+ community. At SUNY, we are proud to recognize the history and contributions of the LGBTQ+ community – from 1951 State University of New York at Albany alumnus and civil rights pioneer Harvey Milk to Lianne De La Cruz, a SUNY Upstate student and the 2025 recipient of the Harvey Milk Scholarship Award for Student Leadership – as we work to create a more inclusive, tolerant, and loving world where everyone can be their true selves.

"During Pride Month, and beyond, we will continue to work tirelessly to foster an environment where every student, faculty, and staff member is seen and respected for who they are."
