Chancellor King Announces ‘I Voted at SUNY’ Sticker Design Opportunity for SUNY Students

Part of SUNY’s Ongoing Commitment to Increase Civil Discourse, Civic Education, and Civic Engagement
Albany, NY — State University of New York Chancellor John B. King Jr. today announced the "I Voted at SUNY" sticker design contest. SUNY students will be able to submit sticker designs, and the winning design will be available at all SUNY polling sites throughout New York State during the November midterm elections.
"A vital part of SUNY’s commitment to student success is preparing well-rounded, civically engaged students who feel empowered to participate in our democracy," said SUNY Chancellor King. "I am thrilled to be launching this opportunity which will showcase the excellent work of our students and inspire them to visit one of our on-campus polling sites this November. We will continue to promote civil discourse, civic education, and building bridges across differences on campuses so that SUNY students are fully engaged and ready to be future leaders."
The SUNY Board of Trustees said, "SUNY is proud of our efforts to ensure our students have opportunities to participate in civil discourse and civic engagement. We wish our students participating in the sticker design competition good luck and look forward to seeing some of the great designs they come up with to inspire their fellow students to vote."
New York State Board of Elections Co-Executive Directors Kristen Zebrowksi Stavisky and Raymond J. Riley III said, "We are excited that SUNY is launching this initiative for its students, as we encourage all college students to become civically involved. New York's elections are strongest when every eligible voter participates. College students bring fresh perspectives, energy, and ideas to our democracy, and we encourage them to take advantage of the resources available to register, learn about the voting process, and cast their ballot with confidence."
SUNY students can submit one original design for the sticker contest through Friday, October 9. Stickers submitted to the contest will be required to be non-partisan, and may not directly or indirectly include candidate names, party affiliations, or issue advocacy language. The selected sticker will be made available at all polling sites located on SUNY campuses during the 2026 midterm elections on November 3. While the 2026 polling locations list will be updated after final locations are determined by the New York State Board of Elections, in 2024, SUNY hosted 22 poll sites on campuses including:

The "I Voted at SUNY" sticker design opportunity builds on SUNY’s commitment to advancing civil discourse, civic education, and civic engagement among SUNY students. In August, Chancellor King described how public higher education plays an integral role in instilling the value of civic service in students and bolstering democracy in an op-ed published in the Buffalo News. In June, Governor Hochul announced the expansion SUNY’s Empire State Service Corps program, which connects students with paid service opportunities to give back to their communities. In January, SUNY announced the first round of awards from the "Building Bridges" civic engagement student leadership awards, which provides grants to groups of students working to build bridges across differences on their respective campuses.
In September 2025, SUNY announced the second cohort of Civil Discourse and Civic Education and Engagement fellows to promote civil discourse among students, faculty, and staff throughout campus communities and to advance SUNY's commitment to civic engagement as an essential outcome of higher education. SUNY also updated its undergraduate general education curriculum to add a civic discourse component to ensure students gain the skills necessary to participate in civic life and engage in healthy dialogues in January 2025. To further support non-partisan voter participation, nearly 40 SUNY campuses participate in the national ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge to provide students with free resources to support student voter registration.
