Presidential Recommendation Expected to be Presented to the SUNY Board in 2020

Amberg Remains Until Successor is Appointed

Albany – State University of New York Chancellor Kristina M. Johnson today officially launched a search for the next SUNY-ESF President. She is expected to recommend a presidential candidate to present to the SUNY Board of Trustees in 2020. Dr. David Amberg will remain as interim president until a successor is appointed.

"When you have a system as large as SUNY, we have the flexibility to share talent amongst campuses, which is what we have in Dr. Amberg leading SUNY-ESF as they prepare for their next president," said SUNY Chancellor Johnson. "Interim President Amberg has brought stability to the campus, which enables us to start the search for presidential candidates and also allows him to begin his planned return to Upstate Medical. My thanks to him for his ongoing leadership."

"It is a great privilege and honor to represent the ESF community, and I thank Chancellor Johnson for the opportunity and her confidence,"said SUNY-ESF Interim President Amberg. "During this time, the campus community and leadership have worked collaboratively to establish functional shared governance and address issues. On the Chancellor’s direction and vision, we have completed the ESF Discovery Challenge to identify cross-cutting initiatives that leverage the expertise of ESF’s scientists to address the pressing environmental challenges of our time. With this ground work completed, the college now stands prepared to welcome a new permanent president."
