Nomination Information

Who may be nominated?

The Chancellor's Award for Student Excellence acknowledges students who have received recognition for outstanding achievements. We are seeking nominations of students who have best demonstrated and been recognized for the integration of academic excellence with other aspects of their lives, which may include leadership, campus involvement, athletics, community service, creative and performing arts, or career achievement. Only students graduating with a degree between June 2017 and May 2018 will be considered. 

Who Nominates? 

• Campus officials nominate students for this award. Each campus will designate one point of contact.
• The designated campus official will work with the campus president and others to determine a review process and will forward to SUNY Administration the finalists for the campus.
• The campus is urged to communicate to students, faculty and staff the nomination and review process used on the campus. 

Nomination process

• Select up to the allowable number of nominees from your campus. The selection process may vary by campus.
• After selection of campus nominees, campus designee will submit a nomination form for each nominee.
• Nominations will be reviewed by a SUNY Administration committee.
• Once campuses are notified of awardees, students will be asked to complete a consent form.

Allowable Number of Nominations

Campuses may nominate one candidate for each 1,500 total AAFTE (Average Annual Full-time Equivalency) with a minimum of two nominations and a maximum of fifteen nominations per campus. (e.g., a campus with 1,700 AAFTE students may submit two nominations; a campus with 5,300 AAFTE students may submit up to four nominations; a campus with 14,500 FTE students may submit up to 10 nominations).

Directions for Submission of Nominations to System Administration

1. Click on the Campus Nomination Form. Create a username and password so that you can return to your work.
2. Complete the form (one per nominee)
3. Attach a support letter or email from the college president. You can save and return to add this at a later time (prior to February 5^th)
4. All forms must be completed by February 5, 2018.

Selection Process

A SUNY-wide selection committee, involving several campus representatives and System Administration staff, will review each nomination and recommend award recipients. By the end of February, a letter will be sent to each award recipient and a list of recipients will be sent to the campus president.

Recognition Ceremony

On April 10, 2018 a university-wide event held at the Albany Capital Center in Albany, New York, will allow students, their families, and campus presidents or designees to convene to celebrate recipients of this award. Students will sit by campus at the ceremony so that as they are called to the stage they will receive the award from their campus president, or designee, and the Chancellor. Students receive a medallion and a certificate.
