Submitting Your Personal Retirement Experience
If you are a retiree (faculty, staff, administrator) of a SUNY state-operated campus, university, community college, or affiliated organization*, you are invited to submit your unique personal retirement experience for inclusion in this section of the SUNY Retirees Service Corps (RSC) website.
We suggest you read a few of the retirement stories that are posted to get some inspiration for your piece.
Please follow the guidelines below in crafting your personal retirement experience:
1) Save your story as a Microsoft Word document
2) Story length: 500 to 1,000 words maximum
3) Make sure to encompass the following in your story:
- In the headline, mention your first name, last name, your title when you retired from SUNY, and the campus/organization you retired from
- In the body of the story, please include the year you retired and the number of years you worked at your campus/organization
- Discuss your retirement process - Did it go as you expected it would?
- Did your life during retirement evolve as anticipated?
- How do you spend your time as a retiree? (hobbies, travel, volunteerism, etc.)
- What advice do you have for SUNY employees who are considering retirement or who are about to retire?
4) Please include a good quality photo of yourself
Please email your article to retirees@suny.edu as a Microsoft Word attachment and your photo ideally as a jpeg attachment. The SUNY RSC will review your piece and may suggest some minor edits. Once finalized, your retirement experience will be posted in the Retirement Stories section of the RSC website and you will be emailed a link to your story's location on the site.
Your retirement story may also be considered for possible placement in an upcoming issue of the SUNY Retirees Newsletter.
*Including SUNY System Administration, the Research Foundation of SUNY, and the State University Construction Fund
