T.H. Psychologist (SL4)
This title is in the unclassified service and in the SUNY Professional Services Negotiating Unit.
Application of the science of human behavior to persons with emotional or behavioral disorders to facilitate the normal growth and development of the individual.
- Provides general psychological services to individual patients as a member of an interdisciplinary treatment team;
- determines the psychological status of new admissions to the unit through psychological assessment techniques and re-evaluates the status of current patients on an ongoing basis as appropriate.
- Develops comprehensive psychological evaluations of patients based on test results, interviews, and other available information and make appropriate recommendations;
- administers and interprets tests of intelligence, special deficits, personality, educational achievements, and vocational interests and aptitudes;
- conducts individual and group therapy in order to attain the goals and objectives determined by the treatment team.
- Participates in conferences with the patient's families to exchange information and offer recommendations on matters pertinent to the patient's psychological adjustment;
- participates in the design and implementation of psychological programs with the Chief Psychologist which meet the needs of patients as well as the requirements of providing clinical instruction and supervision in the principles and practice of all modalities of treatment.
- Participates in the development, implementation, and evaluation of psychological research studies;
- relates to other health care professionals by providing psychological insights at medical and nursing conferences, staff discussions, and meetings at which diagnostic information is evaluated and individual treatment plans are established.
- Provides the necessary input and mechanisms to initiate program evaluation of the psychological services.
- Records all clinical observations and findings as they pertain to the patient's psychological condition on the medical record;
- conducts psychological assessments of patients in units other than one psychiatric unit when called upon to act as a consultant.
- Works under the direct supervision of the Chief Psychologist and the general supervision of the Clinical Director of the Department of Psychiatry.
Preferred Qualifications:
Ph.D., NYS license required. One year post-doctoral experience in a clinical setting.
