T.H. Chief Psychologist (SL5)

This title is in the unclassified service and in the SUNY Professional Services Negotiating Unit.

Application of the science of human behavior to persons with emotional or behavioral disorders to facilitate the normal growth and development of the individual.

• Recruits and trains professional and non-professional psychological staff;
• develops policies and procedures for the professional practice of psychology consistent with the requirements of JCAH, OMH, and the County Health Department;
• directs and assigns psychology staff to test and evaluate patients admitted to the Inpatient Service, Outpatient Department, in the Department of Psychiatry.
• In collaboration with the Attending Physician assigned to consultation and liaison, assigns staff to provide behavioral medicine consultation, neurophysiology and personality testing to patients hospitalized on other services, e.g. Neurology, Medicine, Pediatrics.
• Develops and implements ongoing procedures for program evaluation of psychological services.
• Maintains statistics on the utilization of psychological services;
• proposes and administers the budget;
• coordinates general psychological services for individual patients and assigns psychology staff as a member of an interdisciplinary treatment team.
• Supervises Psychology staff on the development of comprehensive psychological evaluations of patients based on test results, interviews, and other available information and makes appropriate recommendations;
• Supervises the Psychology staff on the administration and interpretation of tests of intelligence, special deficits, personality, educational achievements, and vocational interests and aptitudes;
• coordinates the provision of individual and group therapy in order to attain the goals and objectives determined by the treatment team.
• Participates in conferences with patients' families to exchange information and offer recommendations on matters pertinent to the patient's psychological adjustment;
• directs the training program for clinical psychology interns by providing clinical instruction and supervision in the principles and practices of all modalities of treatment;
• participates in the development, implementation and evaluation of psychological research studies;
• relates to other health care professionals by providing psychological consultation at medical and nursing conferences, staff discussions, and meetings at which diagnostic information is evaluated and individual treatment plans are established;
• supervises the recording of all clinical observations and findings as they pertain to the patient's psychological condition of the medical record.

Preferred Qualifications:

Ph.D., NYS license. Five years experience to include two years in a supervisory/administrative capacity.
