T.H. Chief Open Heart Perfusionist (SL6)

This title is in the unclassified service and in the SUNY Professional Services Negotiating Unit.

The positions in the perfusion family function as teams to set up, maintain and operate the cardio-pulmonary and related equipment which regulates the passage of blood or other fluid through a vascular bed during and after open-heart surgery.

• Clinically responsible for the supervision of all procedures that require the utilization of intra- and extracorporeal devices, i.e., various pumps, oxygenation devices and cardio-support equipment, cardiac and vascular surgery as well as support for cardiac and pulmonary dysfunction.
• Maintains educational level at par with state-of-the-art technology as it develops.
• Participates in cardiac surgery research.
• Involvement in education is a requirement.
• Administratively oversees the perfusion assistant, perfusionist, medical, surgical and nursing staff that are involved in long term support and ancillary technical personnel;
• projects equipment budgets for disposable and capital expenditures.
• Does the performance evaluation of staff members, and meets on an administrative and clinical level with both staff and other medical facilities on intra- and extracorporeal support.

Preferred Qualifications:

AAS Board certification. At least five years of on-the-job related experience of which two years should be in a supervisory/administrative capacity.
