The State University of New York's Arthur O. Eve Educational Opportunity Program provides access, academic support and financial aid to students who show promise for succeeding in college but who may not have otherwise been offered admission. Program participants receive a variety of academic support services and modest financial support to alleviate non-tuition costs (e.g. books, supplies etc.) Available primarily to full-time, matriculated students, the program supports students throughout their college careers within the University.
Note: You cannot apply for both the EOP and Early Decision/Early Action programs.
Admission requirements will vary from campus to campus. In addition to meeting appropriate admission requirements, EOP applicants must be a New York state resident for 12 months prior to enrollment. To be eligible for EOP, applicants must be ineligible for admission under traditional standards, but demonstrate potential for completing a college-level program. You may wish to view EOP information for each campus on the Admissions Information Summary Sheet. Applicants must also qualify as economically disadvantaged.
Yes, transfer students may apply for EOP consideration if they have been enrolled in EOP, College Discovery, HEOP, SEEK or a similar program at the previous college. If the previous college did not offer EOP or a similar program, you may be considered for transfer to EOP and should notify the college to which you are transferring of your interest.
Students submitting an application for EOP consideration may qualify for an application fee waiver for their first seven (7) campus choices. If a student does not meet both the academic and economic guidelines or the campus to which the student is applying does not operate an Educational Opportunity Program, the student will be billed for the fee.
NOTE: Applicants who are deemed ineligible for EOP may still qualify for admission and financial aid through other admissions processes.
Applicants to EOP admission will submit the SUNY application, Common application or individual SUNY campus application for admission and indicate interest in EOP admission. Upon completion of the application, EOP applicants will receive an email directing you to the EOP Financial Eligibility Review portal. After completing and determined to meet the EOP financial eligibility requirements for EOP admissions, the campuses you applied to will determine if you meet the EOP academic requirements. Your high school academic record and test scores, if applicable, will be reviewed, as well as information about your goals and interests. This EOP academic review process will assist admission officers in evaluating potential for success in college and if you meet the EOP academic requirements.
