As an apprentice, the benefits to your education and career are numerous. Apprentices carry little to no student debt upon completion of the program. You’ll earn as you learn. In addition to a SUNY education, you receive real work experience and broadened skill sets that lead to a nationally recognized certificate and the opportunity to continue to work toward a college degree.
See a list of all Registered Apprenticeship occupations SUNY can support. Also check out a non-exhaustive list of Related Instruction training colleges have already provided to Registered Apprentices. Many colleges are able to support trades beyond those listed.
See a full list of approved occupations from the New York State Department of Labor (NYSDOL) including trade outlines listing the skills apprentices gain.
We have funding for Registered Apprentices to take training required for the occupation at a SUNY college up to either $6,000 or $8,000 depending on the length of the trade.
SUNY colleges offer community-based pre-apprenticeship training to provide you with the skills necessary to succeed in a Registered Apprenticeship or career with funding available up to $1,000. You must have authorization to legally work in the United States and be at least a high school senior graduating within three months of program completion to participate. Successful completers may be eligible for a digital badge. (Not all SUNY colleges participate.)
