SUNY University Police at Cobleskill and Potsdam Earn Initial State Accreditation

University at Albany Accreditation Renewed
12 Departments in the SUNY System Accredited
Albany – State University of New York announced University Police at SUNY Cobleskill and SUNY Potsdam attained state accreditation by the state Law Enforcement Accreditation Council, while University at Albany’s accreditation was renewed. To date, the achievement has been earned by 12 departments in the SUNY system, among the 153 police agencies achieving the honor throughout New York State.
"The 133 standards of the Law Enforcement Accreditation Council are rigorous, therefore achieving this honor is no simple task and only a small percentage across the entire state police force have done so thus far," said SUNY University Police Commissioner Paul Berger. "I applaud Chief Timothy Ashley, Chief Frank Lawrence, and Chief J. Frank Wiley for their leadership of their respective departments, as well as my heartfelt thanks to the officers and staff at Albany, Cobleskill and Potsdam for their dedication and commitment to the SUNY family and their profession."
SUNY's goal is that all university police departments become accredited by the end of 2020. A total of 12 SUNY police departments have accreditation including: University at Albany, Binghamton University, University at Buffalo, State University College at Buffalo State, SUNY Cobleskill, State University College at Cortland, State University College at Fredonia, State University College at Geneseo, Stony Brook University, State University College at Oneonta, State University College at Oswego, and SUNY Potsdam. The reaccreditation cycle is five years.
