Albany, NY – State University of New York Chancellor John B. King Jr. visited SUNY Oneonta to take part in Move-In Day activities as students prepare for the coming Fall 2025 academic semester. SUNY's 64 campuses have been organizing orientation programs to support first-time and transfer students beginning their SUNY academic programs and have been welcoming returning students back ahead of the new academic year.

"There is a place at SUNY for every New Yorker, and I am thrilled to be welcoming new and returning students to our campuses throughout the state," said SUNY Chancellor King. "To the new and transfer students starting at SUNY: Thank you for choosing SUNY and I know you will thrive. To the returning students: Welcome back and congratulations on your continued academic success as SUNY students. To the parents, guardians, and loved ones who have entrusted us with their students: Thank you for your trust and we will do everything in our power to ensure their success and growth as we provide an affordable college experience that delivers academic excellence."

The SUNY Board of Trustees said, "Congratulations and welcome to all of our students—new, transfer, and returning— attending SUNY institutions throughout New York State and starting their 2025-2026 academic courses. We thank you for selecting a SUNY institution as you embark or continue on your academic journey. SUNY campuses and institutions are welcoming spaces for all students, and we are thrilled to celebrate move in day events and to kick off the 2025-2026 academic year."

The SUNY system's 64 campuses have begun to reopen for on- and off-campus students as the Fall 2025 academic semester kicks off. Chancellor King joined SUNY Oneonta President Alberto Cardelle and State Officials to welcome students.

SUNY Oneonta President Alberto Cardelle said, "Welcoming new and returning SUNY Oneonta students and their families to campus is one of our favorite times of the year. Whether you are a returning Red Dragon or new first year or transfer student, we are committed to helping our students achieve their academic aspirations and personal growth as they pursue their degrees within our safe, affordable, inclusive campus community."

State Senator Toby Ann Stavisky, Chair of the Higher Education Committee, said, "As Chair of the Senate Higher Education Committee, and as a former New York City public school teacher, I know the first day on campus can shape a student's trajectory. Across SUNY's 64 campuses, Move-In Day and orientation welcome students into supportive communities that help them thrive and build belonging, confidence, and momentum for the year ahead. I thank Chancellor John B. King Jr., President Alberto Cardelle, and the faculty, staff, and student leaders who make this transition successful at SUNY Oneonta and across the system. I wish every student a safe, successful start to the academic year."

State Assemblymember Alicia Hyndman, Chair of the Higher Education Committee, said, "As students move into their residence halls and begin a new academic year, we are reminded of the energy and promise that SUNY brings to every community across our state. SUNY's campuses provide not only high-quality, affordable education, but also opportunity, connection, and pathways to success for thousands of New Yorkers each year. I applaud Chancellor King, President Cardelle, and the entire SUNY system for creating welcoming environments that support students from day one and set them on the path toward achievement and service."

State Assemblymember Brian Miller said, "Move-In Day is always a special time filled with energy and optimism as students settle into campus and prepare for the year ahead. As a parent who will soon be helping my own son move back to college, I know the pride, anticipation, and hope that comes with this moment. Our SUNY campuses, like Oneonta, play a vital role in shaping New York's future, and I commend Chancellor King and President Cardelle for the work they do to ensure students feel welcomed and supported from day one. I wish all students the very best as they begin the new academic year."
