SUNY Board of Trustees and Chancellor King Announce the Appointment of Dr. Anne D’Alleva as the Eighth President of Binghamton University

New York, NY – The State University of New York Board of Trustees voted today to name Dr. Anne D'Alleva as the eighth president of Binghamton University. Dr. D'Alleva currently serves as Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs for the University of Connecticut. The appointment is effective on or around November 1.
During today's meeting, the SUNY Board of Trustees and SUNY Chancellor John B. King Jr. commended Dr. Harvey Stenger, who has served as Binghamton University's seventh president since his appointment in 2012. Under Dr. Stenger, who has 40 years of experience in education, the University gained an even stronger reputation as one of the top public institutions in the nation.
"Binghamton University is one of the state's most esteemed research and academic institutions, and I am proud to welcome Dr. Anne D'Alleva as its next President," said SUNY Chancellor King. "After a tremendously successful era under President Stenger, where Binghamton gained a strong academic reputation and saw significant enrollment and research growth, I am confident that Dr. D'Alleva will build on that progress and bring Binghamton University to even greater heights."

About Dr. Anne D'Alleva
Dr. Anne D'Alleva is an accomplished academic leader, who has focused on advancing student success. In her current role as Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. D'Alleva has served as the University of Connecticut's chief academic officer, with responsibility for all academic units and operations. Dr. D'Alleva has also engaged in multidisciplinary and collaborative efforts to expand UConn's work in AI and quantum technologies, partner with the state's tribal nations, and expand academic offerings at the university's four regional campuses. She is the first woman to serve as provost in UConn's history. Prior to her appointment in this role, Dr. D'Alleva served as dean of the School of Fine Arts since 2015.
As provost, Dr. D'Alleva has overseen UConn's academic enterprise, including strategic planning, budgetary management, faculty development, and curriculum innovation across the university's 14 schools and colleges. She leads transformative initiatives that support student success, faculty excellence, and institutional impact.
Dr. D'Alleva first joined UConn in the fall of 1999 as a joint appointment to Art History and Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies. She received her B.A. in Art History from Harvard University, and her M.A. and Ph.D. in Art History from Columbia University with a graduate certificate in feminist theory. Prior to her arrival at UConn, she completed postdoctoral fellowships at Australian National University and through the Getty Foundation. She has received additional research funding from the National Endowment for the Humanities and the College Art Association. Her books Fundamentals of Art History (3rd ed., 2021) and Methods and Theories of Art History (3rd ed., 2021) have been published in multiple languages worldwide.
