Vice President for University Relations (MP)

This title is in the unclassified service and is designated Managerial/Confidential. Appointees to Managerial/Confidential titles serve at the pleasure of the chief administrative officer and are not represented for collective negotiations.

Positions in this family are involved with formulation and direction of the University's public relations program including news releases, publications, and community involvement.

Vice Presidents for University Relations, at large and complex university centers, direct all community, public, and related relations and contacts with the various external constituents of the campus. Does related work as required.

• Assures close campus relations with the community, the public, governmental jurisdictions and others;
• brings about a proper climate of cooperation, service, and assistance to the constituents of the campus;
• keeps the President aware of and reacts with sureness to any sensitive and troublesome situations and circumstances which arise;
• directs the provision of campus public information;
• supervises the development and release of campus publications, academic brochures and catalogs, newspapers, and so forth;
• maintains liaison with the news media, radio and television and other outlets to give the campus proper and fair outside coverage;
• maintains a continual knowledge of all developments on the campus;
• keeps in close contact with the alumni and development organizations and with non-governmental supported programs on the campus;
• may arrange for educational conferences, seminars, speakers, and other such related activities on campus;
• may direct the administration of a speaker's bureau, may assist the campus council in its public relations activities;
• serves on campus committees.

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in journalism or in the related field of communications or public relations and several years of significant and major higher education public and community relations experience.
