Vice President for Student Affairs (MP)
This title is in the unclassified service and is designated Managerial/Confidential. Appointees to Managerial/Confidential titles serve at the pleasure of the chief administrative officer and are not represented for collective negotiations.
Positions in this series are concerned with the administration of the student affairs program to include planning, development of overall policy and the operations of the student personnel program. The student affairs area is concerned with out-of-class educational programs designed to offer students opportunities to-develop intellectually, socially, culturally and personally.
Serves as principal deputy to the campus president in the area of student personnel; does related work as required.
- Is responsible far the long-range and day-to-day planning and direction of all areas of student affairs, including the development and implementation of policy, recruitment and appointment of subordinate staff, development and control of budgets for this area, and administration for all areas of student affairs;
- areas of responsibility under the VP's purview may include student counseling, testing, admissions, financial aid, student health services, housing, placement and career guidance, orientation, foreign student affairs, student union and activities, in-service training, and ongoing research and student life studies;
- maintains liaison with all academic areas;
- provides for groups requiring special attention including transfer students, the handicapped, culturally and economically deprived students in special categories, commuters, dropouts, and those seeking advice on legal and military matters;
- is concerned with out-of-class educational programs designed to offer students opportunities to develop intellectually, socially, culturally, and personally which includes long-range planning and immediate development and implementation of education for the appreciation of ideas and experiences that deepen and broaden student views of life, increase their knowledge and interest in community and world problems and help develop meaningful personal values, and ethical standards.
Preferred Qualifications:
Doctorate and progressively responsible executive experience in higher education, preferably in student personnel.
