T.H. Radiation Therapy Senior Dosimetrist (SL5)
This title is in the unclassified service and in the SUNY Professional Services Negotiating Unit.
The positions in this job family are involved in assessing the accurate determination of radiation in cancer therapy to which a patient may be exposed to produce the desired effect without any adverse symptoms.
The highest dosimetrist level and would include supervisory responsibilities, both in terms of the other dosimetrists as well as technology students rotating through the section and residents. The incumbent would be expected to participate in national meetings and encouraged to assist in the development of new treatment techniques. Responsibilities would include:
- maintaining appropriate equipment and supply levels for the maximum efficiency of the department and adheres to accepted safety procedures.
- Assists in planning a course of radiation treatments to deliver a prescribed dose of radiation to the specified tumor volume;
- participates in patient simulation and/or localization;
- obtains contours and dosimetric measurements for proper treatment planning;
- assists staff technologists in interpreting treatment plans;
- checks patient records weekly for accuracy, consistency, adherence to treatment prescriptions;
- assists in intracavitary and/or interstitial implants;
- constructs treatment devices such as molds, compensators, bolus, custom blocks, immobilization devices, etc.;
- assists in routine physics projects and research projects;
- participates in quality assurance;
- supervises quality assurance program;
- maintains clinical research and protocol data;
- participates in Radiation Physics projects;
- summarizes completed treatment charts;
- coordinates with Chief Technologist and Medical Director to ensure optimal efficiency and quality care.
Preferred Qualifications:
BS in physical science, computer or math background with five years related experience to include at least one year in a supervisory/administrative capacity.
