T.H. Physicians Assistant II (SL4)
This title is in the unclassified service and in the SUNY Professional Services Negotiating Unit.
The professionals who function in this group are specially trained in the diagnosis and treatment of commonly encountered medical problems. They thereby extend the physician's capacity to provide medical care, freeing the physician to deal with more complex and emergent issues.
- Assists physicians in all aspects of patient care, including pre-, intra- and post-operative functions;
- may rotate in the Open Heart Unit;
- monitors patients intra-operatively, post-operatively and in the Open Heart Unit;
- assists in ordering of ancillary tests.
- Responsible for appropriate documentation, performs admission history and physical examination on surgery patients;
- may perform routine physical examination on long-term open-heart patients;
- performs special procedures including drawing blood, starting lumbar punctures, placement of indwelling arterial catheters, etc.;
- selects and orders appropriate tests and procedures in a logical fashion;
- maintains the currency and closure of medical records;
- attends appropriate conferences and rounds.
Preferred Qualifications:
Graduate of an approved PA program, NYS registered and NCCPA certified or eligible required.
