T.H. Director of Physical Therapy (SL5)
This title is in the unclassified service and in the SUNY Professional Services Negotiating Unit. This title is in Appendix A of the SUNY Policies of the Board of Trustees and, as a consequence, incumbents serving in this title are not eligible for permanent appointment (tenure), but, instead receive five year renewable term appointments.
As a job family, Physical Therapists work closely with other members of the health care team, patients and their families, to plan the evaluation and treatment of the patient's needs and to develop and administer programs aimed at strengthening the body.
- Responsible for overall direction of the hospital Physical Therapy department, the development of program plans and departmental growth.
- Responsible for all aspects of patient care and management in compliance with departmental policies and procedures and the quality assurance program;
- responsible for the department's educational program and the orientation and training of all medical staff and students as needed in regard to physical therapy;
- represents the department internally and externally;
- interacts with medical staff regarding patient needs.
- Responsible for the development of departmental policies and procedures, record keeping and inventory control programs.
- Develops and prepares Budget and is responsible and accountable to Hospital Administration for achieving budgetary targets.
- Is responsible for program development and planning.
- Plans, organizes and provides administrative direction to all Physical Therapy staff and may supervise and direct other health care professionals in related areas.
Preferred Qualifications:
BS degree in Physical Therapy, NYS licensure. At least six years experience to include two years in a supervisory/administrative capacity. MS degree in Physical Therapy with at least five years experience to include two years in a supervisory/ administrative capacity preferred.
