T.H. Clinical Technical Services Sleep Disorder Specialist (SL3)

This title is in the unclassified service and in the SUNY Professional Services Negotiating Unit.

Incuments of positions in this family provide a detailed survey of the patient's sleep-related problems including physical, neurological, psychiatric and psychological exams to indicate whether other diagnostic tests are necessary.

  • Attaches sensors and electrodes to correctly record respiratory variables and abnormalities during polygraphically defined sleep.
  • Minimizes polygraphic artifacts to insure the detection of respiratory abnormalities during sleep.
  • Monitors and polysomnographs throughout the night on a 14 channel polygraph and intervenes to correct problems that might develop with electrodes and/or sensors.
  • Recognizes certain medical emergencies from the recording (e.g., respiratory arrest and/or cardiac arrest) and takes appropriate emergency steps including cardio-pulmonary resuscitation.
  • Trains and may supervise the Technical Associate.

Preferred Qualification:

B.A. or B.S. Minimum two years experience.
