T.H. Clinical Technical Services Chief Transplant Organ Perfusionist (SL3)

This title is in the unclassified service and in the SUNY Professional Services Negotiating Unit.

The Chief Organ Perfusionist is familiar with the various methods of and mechanical systems used in organ perfusion and preservation.

Responsible for decision making and judgement as to the method of preservation to be utilized at the time of retrieval, judgement as to the method of flushing the organs and keeping organs viable from time of retrieval to time of implantation, usually up to a 48 hour period. Required to record warm and cold Ischemia times, pulsatile perfusion total time, flow rates, pharmacological agents administered, etc. Uses own judgement in the training of Junior Perfusionists.

Preferred Qualification:

Bachelor's Degree in biology, biomedical engineering, chemistry, biochemistry or relevant science field. Three years experience as a Perfusion Technician at a federally accredited transplantation center. Significant knowledge of Anatomy, Pathology, Physiology and the principles governing renal function is a prerequisite to proper performance.
