T.H. Biomedical Engineering Service Manager (SL3)
This title is in the unclassified service and in the SUNY Professional Services Negotiating Unit.
As a family, Biomedical Engineering positions are responsible for the investigation and design, development and construction of not readily available biomedical instrumentation, make special Biomedical equipment purchases, repairs, preparation, and maintenance of electronic devices used in specialty areas (Radiology, Clinical Pathology, Respiratory Therapy, Dialysis, etc.) in support of the delivery of quality patient care and research.
Under the administrative and technical supervision of the Assistant Director, functions as the Manager of BME inspection and Repair Services.
- The manager communicates with nursing leadership, department heads and unit managers regarding BME inspection schedules, repair status and installation details;
- schedules and prepares all necessary requisitions for the outside training of Biomedical Engineering Technicians (BMETs);
- inspects the quality and organization of work assignment records;
- coordinates outside service work for medical instrumentation and prepares all necessary requisitions and justifications related to this effort;
- establishes vendor contacts to insure necessary parts and supplies are provides to BMETs;
- maintains the BME inspection procedure manual;
- develops and implements solutions to work flow problems regarding BME inspection and repair services; and
- instructs co-workers and subordinates as required in the performance of job tasks.
The Biomedical Engineering Service Manager develops specifications for replacement parts and supplies required for maintenance and repair;
- works bench side with technicians to solve inspection and repair problems;
- specifies and provides test equipment necessary for BMETs to perform their service function; and
- maintains an adequate inventory of spare parts, tools and materials.
Preferred Qualifications:
Associate Degree in Electronics Technology; Biomedical Electronics Technology is required. Knowledge of electronics theory, design, troubleshooting and repair is required. Certification as a biomedical equipment technician by the International Certification Commission is required
