This title is in the unclassified service and in the SUNY Professional Services Negotiating Unit.This title is in Appendix A of the SUNY Policies of the Board of Trustees and, as a consequence, incumbents serving in this title are not eligible for permanent appointment (tenure), but, instead receive five year renewable term appointments.

Positions in this series are concerned with in depth operational and systems analysis and programming and the supervision of this work in the management, administrative, business, instruction, research, and scientific areas in a university and educational setting. Incumbents must have considerable knowledge of the operations and programs of a university in order to determine whether or not such programs should be placed on the computer, to analyze in detail the problem at hand, and to write coded instructions so the computer will develop the desired results. They must be familiar with various programming languages and the character of university-used equipment, its operational capabilities, and the software necessary to process various projects. May be required to aid the students and faculty by demonstrating and teaching the practical application of systems analysis, programming, and the use and capabilities of hardware and software in the computing center.

Preferred Qualifications:

A Bachelor's degree. Four years of experience as a programmer analysis, preferably at an institution of higher education. Analysts and programmers in this series working the research and scientific areas must have considerable education in higher level mathematics.
